You’ve been Using Binaural Beats the Wrong Way – Learn Proper Brainwave Entrainment

Contrary to popular belief, binaural beats can be used at just about any time, not just when you’re meditating. Binaural beats are used to create the ideal frequencies in your brain through the process called brainwave entrainment. There are 5 different brainwave frequencies, Delta (0.5-4 Hz), Theta (4-7 Hz), Alpha (7-13 Hz), Beta (13-39 Hz), and Gamma (40+Hz), and each frequency correlates with a different state of mind. (Each frequency is a rough estimate, as they bleed into each other when moving from one state to the next).

Most all information you’ll find on binaural beats tell you that you should sit in a quiet place and meditate while you attempt to entrain your brain. But this isn’t totally accurate since the different brainwave states are used for different things. For example, why would you listen to gamma or beta frequencies which are meant to help you analyze and perform better when you are meditating? Meditation is meant to get you to slow down your analyzing and be still for a moment, the exact opposite of what beta and gamma waves do. The process is counterintuitive.

On top of that, even though they say “just find 10 minutes” to meditate whether you’re on your break at work or in between tasks, that’s easier said than done. So many things pop up like coworkers who want to chat, or a call or text you need to return. And let’s be frank, 10 minutes a day never helped anyone see the results that they’re really looking for so it’s easy just to forego the whole process.

The best way to entrain your brain with binaural beats is to use them during their proper correlating activities.

Delta Waves have the slowest wave frequency at 0.5 – 4 Hz to create a deep dreamless sleep state and loss of body awareness. Play delta brainwave frequencies on your way to bed and even while you sleep. These waves are very beneficial for the body which restores and heals itself in this state. The delta state releases hormones such as melatonin, HGH, and DHEA, which are considered to be anti-aging hormones. Delta is the state of deepest relaxation, healing, spiritual connection and connection with the subconscious mind.

Theta Waves are around 4 – 7 Hz which is ideal for deep meditative and relaxed states. It is common for people to feel as if they are in a trance, where the mind feels as though it may have gone to sleep although it is conscious of what is happening around it. Theta waves induce a capacity for prolonged daydreaming, visualization, and creativity where a loss of time may be experienced. In this state, the mind is very relaxed and is highly receptive to direct suggestion under hypnosis. Alpha and delta frequencies could be used during meditation as well, but theta frequencies are primed for it.

Alpha Waves are between 7 – 13 Hz. This state is generated when thoughts are not really concentrated and the mind wanders freely. The brain experiences alpha brainwaves when we are gently busy with routine tasks like gardening, showering, doing light housework, or are in a relaxed state such as meditating or daydreaming. You could even use them when you’re driving or riding the bus to and from work. Just be careful not to play them too loudly when you might need to hear a horn honking or a siren coming your way. Alpha waves are considered to be the bridge between the conscious and subconscious mind.

Beta Wave range frequency is between 13 – 39 Hz. Beta is the most common brain wave pattern and is produced when we are wide awake, alert, active and engaged in mental activity. They usually involve the more rational, calculating left hemisphere of our brain and is required to function properly in your everyday life. Use Beta brainwaves when you’re at work or studying. Entraining your brain with beta frequencies will help you focus on the task at hand.

Gamma Wave range frequency is at 40Hz and higher and would be most beneficial if you listen to them when you want to ‘get in the zone’, like when you’re working out or training for instance. You want to be in a state where you’re hyper-aware of everything you’re doing and feeling, and what’s going on around you. Gamma brainwave states are the most rapid in frequency. They have long been considered the brainwave able to link and process information from all parts of the brain. It is the frequency that carries the ability to process large amounts of information in relatively small amounts of time. When tuned to gamma waves, the brain is expected to be able to simulate higher mental activity, which includes better perception, better problem solving features, and better control of fear and consciousness.
